MOM of 7

….life AMPLIFIED by 7 kids!

Lessons I Learn from TV! Thank you Bethenny Frankel 03/14/2011

Do you ever have those moments when you’re watching a really great TV show and think…”oh my gosh, I totally ‘GET’ what they’re saying!”

For me, it usually happens when I’m watching a show on TLC or BRAVO-TV and generally the comment(s) made are ones that deal with self-confidence or past relationships.  I honestly have those AH-HA moments.  Watching TLC’s WHAT NOT TO WEAR or Bravo’s BETHENNY EVER AFTER is when I have the biggest light bulb moments.  I know it sounds sad….but it’s true.

Here’s what I learned last week:

YOUR GREATEST GIFT IS ALSO YOUR CURSE!!!

Have you ever heard that line before (or did I make it up?)  🙂  Your greatest gift is also your curse!  Take Bethenny on BRAVO’s “BETHENNY EVER AFTER”.  She is one direct woman!  She can’t help but walk into a storm.  Now, this can be bad, but look at her success.  Bethenny takes on the world and does it very well.
I “GET” Bethenny.  When she has something on her mind it’s impossible for her to keep her mouth shut!

Take a look/listen:  (note–in this clip you will also hear the producer’s make remarks about this scene, which is doubly fascinating)

Now, while Bethenny is arguing over what’s “normal” visiting time for families (holidays etc) the biggest point here is THERE IS NO NORMAL!!!  What’s normal for you isn’t normal for me.

Take this conversation and change the exact subject matter.  Take this setting and change the characters from Bethenny and her husband, Jason.  When I was watching this scene unfold last week, I thought…Holy Moly, that’s ME and Stephen.  That’s me…running my mouth when I shouldn’t, telling him everything I’m feeling and that’s Stephen (poor guy) sitting there trying to catch up as I run my mouth a million miles a second.   When I’m done talking I feel so much better.  It’s as if there’s a dam built up in my mouth and until I get those thoughts out I’m just stuck!  I bet Bethenny feels the same.

Bethenny’s greatest gift is BEING OPEN AND DIRECT and yet it’s her greatest curse because it’s something MOST men (and probably women) cannot handle!  Thankfully, it appears Jason can.  And I thank GOD, Stephen can.

Think about it…what’s your greatest gift?  Is it also your greatest curse?
